Liverpool could hit jackpot, PL rivals target wantaway ace with £35m windfall

West Brom are reportedly targeting Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho as they prepare to sell Jonny Evans to Manchester City for big money.

Sakho has been frozen out at Anfield for well over a year now after disciplinary issues saw Jurgen Klopp drop him before shipping him out on loan to Crystal Palace last season.

With a bleak future ahead at Liverpool still, the French international is searching for an escape and he could get it via West Brom who will have money to spend following the sale of Evans.

According to The Sun, Man City are attempting to sign the Northern Irish defender with a £25m bid, but the Baggies are holding out for £35m as they want to cash in and get as much as possible even if they are keen to not sell the former Man Utd man.

Should they agree to let him go though, that money will be available to sign a replacement, and the report notes that Sakho has emerged as the top choice for Tony Pulis to fill the void.

It remains to be seen whether or not the 27-year-old chooses to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place, but with the World Cup approaching next summer, it’s difficult to see him taking that risk.

In turn, a move to the Hawthorns where he could get regular football and a chance to establish himself as a key figure for the Premier League side should appeal to him and Liverpool may well have an interested party with the resources to match their valuation of the former PSG defender.
