What more invitation do Liverpool need?
Liverpool have been handed a huge boost by their long-term transfer target Stefan de Vrij as he refuses to make any assurances over his future as he nears the end of his contract.
Italian outlet CalcioMercato have reported Liverpool are among the defender’s admirers, and that he has refused to commit to renewing his contract, saying: ‘I will meet with club’s executives, I want to sign a new deal but I can make no promises.’

Champions League giants ready to pay £27million to seal transfer of vital Liverpool star
The report goes on to suggest that the Dutchman could even end up at Anfield by January as Lazio will look to cash in on De Vrij rather than letting him leave for free if he does not sign a new deal by then.
Calciomercato claim that the Italian giants would look to secure a deal of up to €35m (£31m) for the star if he departs in January, though Juventus would rather wait to sign him on a free, while Milan’s interest is not said to be particularly strong.
It would surely be a no-brainer for Liverpool to step up their pursuit for the star following their lack of investment at the back over the summer and subsequent defensive woes this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have conceded an astonishing 16 goals in just 9 Premier League fixtures so far this season and have received widespread criticism for their repeated defensive lapses.
Just yesterday defender Dejan Lovren was subbed off by Klopp shortly after the half-hour mark as his sloppy play handed Tottenham an early 2-0 lead at Wembley.
While De Vrij remains unproven in the Premier League, Liverpool fans will surely feel they can do no worse right now after the sorry state of their defence was exposed in the side’s 4-1 defeat to Spurs this weekend.
