Major Chelsea transfer boost, £70m-rated target edges closer to January move

Chelsea have reportedly received good news on the transfer front as they have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Juventus defender Alex Sandro.

There’s no denying that Antonio Conte needs to bring in another left-back or wing-back, as although Marcos Alonso provided us with a reminder of his class this weekend with his goal against Southampton, the Spaniard can’t be expected to continue playing so heavily for an entire season in multiple competitions.

The 26-year-old has already made 24 appearances in all competitions, rarely not featuring for a full 90 minutes, and so in order to avoid seeing him burn out, a January recruit would certainly be a smart move to add competition and an opportunity for him to rest.

According to The Express, that could be on the cards in January as although there seems to be a distance between Juve’s £70m valuation of Sandro in comparison to the £55m bid said to have been made by Chelsea in the summer, the Turin giants are said to be willing to discuss terms next month with the Brazilian ace not moving any closer to signing a new contract.

There’s no denying the quality that he possesses as he has been a key figure in Massimiliano Allegri’s success over the past two years, but it looks as though he could be moving on from the Serie A champions in the near future.

With defensive solidity being paired with an attacking threat to go with his consistency and experience, it would be a smart move from Chelsea if they can complete a deal, but it will seemingly force them to put their hands into a deep pocket to prise him away.
