Manchester United confident they’re closer to raiding Prem rivals for fourth signing of the summer

Manchester United are reportedly confident of signing Chelsea winger Willian now after Brazil’s exit from the World Cup.

The 29-year-old has long been linked with the Red Devils and also with Barcelona, but it is the former who are now stepping up their interest, according to the Sun.

The report states United are confident they can get a deal done, with Willian an ideal upgrade on inconsistent performers like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the club’s attack.

Signed by Jose Mourinho when he was at Chelsea, Willian has been a solid and reliable performer for the Blues in five years at Stamford Bridge.

A perfect fit for the way Mourinho likes his sides to play, the Brazil international makes sense as the club’s next signing after already completing three deals this summer.

United have brought in Diogo Dalot, Lee Grant and Willian’s international team-mate Fred as they look to strengthen sufficiently to mount a stronger title challenge next season.

Manchester City ran away with the Premier League and United clearly need to improve despite finishing second, with 19 points to make up on their neighbours.

Willian seems a decent place to start, with the experienced winger winning two titles as a Chelsea player, one of those under Mourinho in 2014/15.

He could also join former Chelsea team-mates Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic at Old Trafford.
