Barcelona drop hint over potential €20m exit with pre-season decision

Barcelona have seemingly dropped a major hint that Andre Gomes is on his way out of the club as they’re reportedly set to leave him behind from their pre-season tour.

The 24-year-old joined the Catalan giants in 2016 off the back of an impressive showing for Portugal at the European Championship while also shining for Valencia.

However, he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a key figure at the Nou Camp, as although he’s made 78 appearances after two seasons with Barcelona, he has often been used sparingly and without an extended run in the starting line-up.

In turn, an exit would seem to make sense in order to raise funds for a target more to coach Ernesto Valverde’s liking, and according to Sport, that’s exactly what might happen as Gomes is said to be staying behind rather than travel with the rest of the Barcelona squad on their pre-season tour in the US.

It’s added in the report that both Arsenal and Juventus are interested in the €20m-rated midfielder, but it remains to be seen whether or not a deal is struck this summer to take him away from the reigning La Liga champions.

What is certain is that Barca appear to be undergoing a reshuffle in midfield. After Andres Iniesta and Paulinho left, Arthur was officially announced by the club this week as they appear to be looking to get younger and adopt a longer-term vision.

Should Gomes also leave, Valverde will arguably be keen to bolster his midfield further in order to have enough quality and depth at his disposal to compete on various fronts next season, but time will tell if the interested parties touted are willing to make what Barca deem to be a satisfactory offer.
