Daley Blind deal to break Dutch transfer record as Manchester United defender edges towards Old Trafford exit

The Dutch transfer record will be broken by Daley Blind, according to journalist Mike Verweij.

He claims that the Manchester United defender is poised for sign a four-year contract with Ajax who will pay a transfer fee worth an initial €16m, rising to a maximum €21m which will make him the most expensive player ever bought by an Eredivisie club.

Verweij’s message was retweeted by BBC reporter Simon Stone, who added: “Looks like Daley Blind on his way out of Man Utd. Won’t be the last.”

United paid FC Groningen £13.8m for Blind in 2014, as reported by BBC Sport. At today’s rate that equates to €15.6m, meaning the Red Devils stand to make a modest profit on the 28-year-old.

Blind played just seven Premier League matches under Jose Mourinho last season, so his exit from Old Trafford is likely to have little effect on the team’s fortunes.

Throughout his four-year stay in England, Holland international Blind featured in 90 PL games and scored four times.

Including matches in other competitions, he played 141 matches and netted five goals.

Ajax finished second in the Eredivisie last season, four points below champions PSV.
