Chelsea must act within hours to exercise €38m release clause of AC Milan star

Chelsea begin a new era under Maurizio Sarri next season, and that in turn could lead to new signings to help the Italian tactician stamp his mark on the squad.

The former Napoli boss will bring an entirely different style of play to the table at Stamford Bridge compared to that of predecessor Antonio Conte.

While the former Blues coach is known for his more pragmatic and organised style, Sarri received widespread praise for developing one of the more entertaining brands of football during his stint with Napoli.

In turn, in order to replicate that at Chelsea, he may need to have a squad reshuffle, with Jorginho being officially confirmed as his first signing at the club within hours of his own unveiling.

According to Calciomercato though, they could be running out of time to land rumoured target and AC Milan star Suso in a €38m deal, as his release clause is said to be set to expire at midnight on Monday morning.

At that point, it will be down to interested parties to negotiate with Milan over a new price-tag, with Chelsea specifically mentioned in the report after the Spaniard’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, was said to have offered his client to the Premier League giants earlier this week.

Suso has established himself as a key creative figure for the Rossoneri on the right wing, contributing eight goals and 14 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions last season.

With that in mind, Gennaro Gattuso will likely be eager to keep him at the San Siro for the foreseeable future in order to spearhead his push to secure Champions League football for Milan, but it remains to be seen if Chelsea continue their reported pursuit.

It would be wise to move as soon as possible to exercise Suso’s release clause, which in turn takes Milan out of the equation. While Calciomercato add that the Italian giants won’t demand more than €40m anyway, it may present another obstacle to any possible deal.
