Arsenal have been offered the chance to seal the transfer of midfielder Andre Gomes from Barcelona for just £20million, according to reports.
However, the Gunners are seemingly not willing to pay that much for the out-of-favour Portugal international, who is also a target for his old side Valencia on loan, according to Sport, as translated by the Daily Mirror.
Arsenal recently lost Jack Wilshere in midfield as he left at the end of his contract to join West Ham, so could arguably do with more depth in the middle of the park.
Gomes may not have lived up to his initial promise after moving to the Nou Camp, but could at least be a useful squad player at the Emirates Stadium given the shortage of quality in that part of the pitch.
Lucas Torreira looks a promising summer signing from Sampdoria, but the likes of Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka don’t really look up to the job.
It’s hard to imagine Gomes could be much worse, but it seems for the time being Arsenal aren’t making him a priority.
The report above mentions Barca being keen to clear out some unwanted players this summer, but despite Gomes being available for so cheap, it looks like they might struggle to offload him to Arsenal for the time being, though Tottenham are also mentioned as potential suitors as the Catalans look for buyers.
