Chelsea are reportedly closing in on signing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani for £44.2million in what looks like being a superb transfer.
The Italy international has long looked one of the most promising young centre-backs in Europe and seems exactly what Chelsea need to bring some fresh blood in this summer.
Rugani would surely be an upgrade on ageing and off-form duo David Luiz and Gary Cahill, and the Evening Standard suggest a deal is close to being finalised.
In what has been a generally chaotic summer for Chelsea, things do finally seem to be coming together a bit more after the appointment of Maurizio Sarri to replace Antonio Conte, and Jorginho coming in in midfield.
Rugani would be another solid addition and a strong long-term signing to help CFC improve at the back after last season’s struggles saw them slip to fifth in the Premier League and miss out on Champions League qualification.
Although Rugani has not always been a regular starter for Juventus, the 23-year-old has impressed when used and has also been up against plenty of big names in that area of the pitch in his time in Turin.
At Stamford Bridge he would likely be first choice and could finally flourish if made a key player under Sarri.
