Manchester United ready to pay £62million asking price to seal quality transfer

Manchester United are reportedly ready to meet the £62million asking price of Chelsea winger Willian as Barcelona pull out of the transfer.

The Catalan giants have today officially announced a deal to sign Malcom from Bordeaux, which could put their interest in Willian to an end.

This is according to Mundo Deportivo, who suggest United are more willing to cough up and pay what Chelsea want to sign the 29-year-old this summer.

Willian would likely be a fine signing for United manager Jose Mourinho, who needs a new wide player and who has worked with the Brazil international before, having signed him for Chelsea.

The Portuguese tactician has made no secret of how much he rates the player, and he’d be ideal as a more direct and natural winger than many of his current options.

Willian has posed in Chelsea’s new kit but will he stick around?

Alexis Sanchez has struggled to find his best role since joining from Arsenal in January, while Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford generally look more comfortable at centre-forward than out wide.

If United can bring in Willian that would have to go down as a success, even if it’s a lot of money to pay for a player of that age, with the club’s rivalry with Chelsea surely meaning that fee was always likely to be pushed up.

‘Do you want to talk about Willian? Top, cream of the crop, he’s amazing,’ Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Independent after Willian scored against his United side last season.
