Danny Drinkwater could be about to have his Chelsea nightmare ended, by the hands of former club Leicester City.

Drinkwater, who joined the Blues from the Foxes last summer, has been a massive flop in his first year at Stamford Bridge, with the Englishman only managing to make a handful of starts for the west London club.

And now, his former side could be about to hand him a way out of Chelsea.

TeamTalk are reporting that the Midlands side have informed the London-based club that they are keen to bring the midfielder back to the King Power Stadium should Maurizio Sarri find him surplus to requirements.

The report also states that Leicester are ok with taking Drinkwater back on loan with the option to buy, and that the Foxes are only ready to pay £20M for his permanent signature.

Drinkwater’s first year at Stamford Bridge has been horrible, with the England international completely failing to cement his place in the club’s starting line-up.

The 28-year-old only managed to play for 521 minutes in the Premier League for Sarri’s side last season, scoring once in the process.

Drinkwater was superb for Leicester in their 2015/16 title-winning campaign, as he picked up three goals and eight assists to help the Foxes win their first ever league title.

However, he’s failed to replicate this form during his time at Stamford Bridge, something the club’s fans will surely have been disappointed with.

If Drinkwater goes, we’re sure a lot of Chelsea fans won’t be too sad to see the back of the England star…
