Barcelona eyeing up transfer swoop for out-of-favour Liverpool star

Barcelona are reporting eyeing up a move for Liverpool and Belgium shot-stopper Simon Mignolet, who struggled to land himself a starting spot with the Reds this past season.

This is according to Sky Sports, who note that the Spanish giants are interested in bringing the goalkeeper to Catalonia this summer, and that Mignolet has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield after Alisson joined from Roma this window.

The news will surely come as a shock to Barca fans, who will be surprised to see their club interested in a player who can’t even start regularly for Liverpool.

Mignolet is apparently being targeted by Barcelona this summer

The Belgian international, who was part of the Red Devils squad that finished third at this summer’s World Cup, struggled to cement his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI last year.

The 30-year-old only played 22 times for Klopp’s side last season, with Loris Karius often being preferred to start over the Belgian in between the sticks for the Reds.

Mignolet did manage to solidify his place as Liverpool’s no.1 goalkeeper during his first few years at the club, however in recent seasons, the player has seen his first team minutes be reduced more and more.

Barcelona surely aren’t in need of Mignolet for the time being, however should they lose a star such as Jasper Cillessen, there interest in the Belgium star won’t look so weird after all.
