Manchester United transfer target Toby Alderweireld has dropped the biggest hint yet of where his future lies as he looks ahead to a return to first-team action.

The Belgian defender has been enjoying a well-earned break after serving for his country at The World Cup finals in Russia this summer. He was an instrumental part of manager Roberto Martinez’s starting XI as Belgium reached the semifinals, forming a formidable centre-back partnership with Vincent Kompany.

At club level with Tottenham Hotspur, the 29-year old has had a difficult last few months, largely left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s first team and linked with a move away from North London during the current transfer window.

According to The Evening Standard, Manchester United have been closely monitoring his situation and held initial talks with Spurs about a possible deal a few weeks ago.

However, The ES also reports that Alderweireld has now hinted that his immediate future remains with The Lily Whites, revealing his imminent return to pre-season duty with the squad.
