Barcelona are set to bring in Ajax and Netherlands youngster Frenkie De Jong next week should the Dutch giants fail to qualify for the Champions League.

This is according to Don Balon, who note that the player has a pre-agreement with Ernesto Valverde’s side, and that the midfielder rejected a move to Man City due to this.

The report also notes that the if Ajax make it to the Champions League proper, De Jong will remain in Amsterdam for another year, however if they fail, he will seal his switch to the Camp Nou next week.

De Jong could be set to seal a move to Barca if things go the club’s way next week

De Jong, who Don Balon reported earlier this summer has a €50M asking price on his head, would be a great signing for the Spanish giants, as the youngster has shown that he’s got superb potential in his locker with Ajax this season just gone.

The youngster played a key role for the Dutch giants this campaign, with his performances for the Eredivise outfit helping the club secure a second-placed finish in the league.

With Sergio Busquets getting a bit older, and with the club having already lost Andres Iniesta this summer, signing De Jong would be a great move, as it would ensure that Barca’s midfield has quality in it for years to come.

Now all that remains to see whether Ajax manage to qualify for European football’s biggest club competition, something that Barca fans will surely be hoping they don’t do.
