After struggling to showcase his best football last season, Ousmane Dembele made the perfect start in his second year with Barcelona on Sunday night.
The Catalan giants took on Sevilla for the Spanish Super Cup in the curtain-raiser for the new season, and they were forced to battle back from a goal down to pick up their first trophy of the campaign.
Pablo Sarabia scored after just nine minutes to give Sevilla the lead, but Gerard Pique found an equaliser just before half-time as he tapped home after Lionel Messi’s free-kick had struck the post.
However, it was Dembele who would emerge as the hero for Barcelona, as he smashed home the stunning strike seen in the video below to secure the victory with just 12 minutes to go.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved a Wissam Ben Yedder penalty to help secure the win too, but it was Dembele who stole the headlines after his brilliant goal.
Having been blighted by injuries and struggled with competition last season, he’ll be hoping that this is just the start of a much more influential year for him while Ernesto Valverde will hope that this is the first of many trophies won this season.
