Arsenal linked with snapping up three-time PL winner after cryptic agent tweet

After his glittering stint at Man City came to an end last season, Yaya Toure is being linked with a surprise switch to Arsenal.

The 35-year-old made 316 appearances for City, winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at the Etihad as he was a fundamental figure in their rise to the top of English football.

However, with that chapter in his career now closed, he is seemingly on the look-out for a new challenge, with his agent Dimitry Seluk, as per his tweet below, suggesting that he has already passed a medical in London while ruling out West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

That still leaves countless options of course, but according to Calciomercato, it is Arsenal that are closing on a deal for the midfield stalwart while Sky Sports note in their tweet below that the odds would also reflect that too which seems to suggest that he could genuinely be on his way to north London.

It remains to be seen if such a move materialises but it would have its pros and cons. Toure is now 35 years of age and undoubtedly has had his best days. Nevertheless, with the wealth of experience, solidity and presence he can bring to the Arsenal midfield, it could be a sensible short-term addition for Unai Emery.

The Spanish tactician has seen his side concede six goals in their opening three Premier League games. Shoring things up defensively as a unit will surely be his priority and Toure could help with that process.

This would though go against the suggestion from The Mirror that Premier League clubs aren’t able to sign players even on a free transfer after the August 9 deadline. In turn, time will tell if Toure will actually only be able to play for Arsenal, if he joins, from January onwards.
