Bring back Gunners legend, find his own Van Dijk: Five things Unai Emery needs to do to fix Arsenal slump

4) Recall Reiss Nelson

A pretty simple one here – the young winger has been superb on loan at Hoffenheim this season and would surely be an upgrade on the inconsistent and frustrating Alex Iwobi.

If Arsenal aren’t careful, they’ll soon find themselves struggling to hold on to the young Englishman after his taste of first-team football in the Bundesliga.

Make no mistake – Nelson looks a talent as exciting as Jadon Sancho, shining at Borussia Dortmund after leaving Manchester City, or Callum Hudson-Odoi who is attracting big interest after a lack of playing time at Chelsea.

According to BBC Sport, Arsenal have discussed the possibility of recalling Nelson this January, so fans should hope this is something that can materialise.

5) Get club legend in the backroom team

It was a big summer of upheaval at the Emirates, and Emery could perhaps do well to create more of a link with the club in his backroom team.

The former Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla boss seems to have a lot of his preferred staff in with him at Arsenal, following him from his previous clubs, but given he is still learning English and new to the club and the league, there is perhaps room for a club legend to be thrown into the mix.

Manchester United have of course reaped the benefits of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coming in alongside Mike Phelan to take charge of the team until the end of the season, while Chelsea brought in Gianfranco Zola as assistant to Maurizio Sarri to help bridge that gap in the changing room this season.

Freddie Ljungberg should get a promotion at Arsenal

Arsenal would surely not be short of candidates, but our recommendation would be Freddie Ljungberg, who is already at the club as manager of the Under-23 team and doing a pretty good job.

The Swede always seemed a popular character among Arsenal fans and his team-mates, and can offer some continuity from the Wenger era, having played for so long under the Frenchman and buying into the values that have made AFC the club they are today.
