Chelsea have reportedly come in with an offer worth £101million for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho.
This is according to Don Balon, who state the Barcelona attacking midfielder is one of Chelsea’s prime targets to replace Eden Hazard.
Given the Belgium international’s contract situation at Stamford Bridge, it makes sense for the Blues to start work on bringing in a new player in that area of the pitch.
Coutinho shone in his time in the Premier League with Liverpool, even if he’s struggled to make the step up since joining Barca last season.
It may well be that the Brazil international would welcome the chance to have another spell in English football and get a key role in this Chelsea side, which may perhaps be better suited to his skill-set than his role in Ernesto Valverde’s squad.
While CFC fans would no doubt be gutted to lose a world class attacker like Hazard, they’d be doing pretty good business if they could land a player like Coutinho for £101m – not the most expensive potential deal in this current market.
A previous Don Balon report has also linked Chelsea with Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale as a potential Hazard replacement, while this one also links the club with a recent offer to his Madrid team-mate Isco, suggesting they’ve tried for both him and Coutinho in the last few hours.
