Arsenal make approach for priority transfer target to replace injured star

Arsenal have reportedly made a first approach to seal the transfer of Napoli right-back Kevin Malcuit to replace the injured Hector Bellerin.

The Spain international recently suffered a bad injury and looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with a new addition in that area surely needed for the Gunners.

And according to France Football, Unai Emery has made Napoli’s Malcuit his priority for that position, with the north London club putting out initial feelers to see if a deal could be possible.

However, as the report notes, Napoli are a tough side to negotiate with, and Arsenal have not exactly left themselves with much time left this January to get signings done.

Malcuit is also not exactly the kind of big name most Arsenal fans will be craving, though he seems solid enough as someone essentially only coming in as cover.

Stephan Lichtsteiner is another right-back on the books at the Emirates Stadium, but the Swiss veteran has not looked at all convincing since he joined from Juventus in the summer.

Bellerin will be a big loss and one imagines Emery does not want to rely on Lichtsteiner for the rest of the season.
