Chelsea are reportedly eyeing up a number of midfield transfer targets for the summer, including one of Thomas Tuchel’s former Borussia Dortmund players.

The Blues have an exciting team coming together under Tuchel, but one imagines the German tactician will feel he could do with strengthening in a few key areas in order to turn his side into genuine Premier League title contenders next season.

Declan Rice is back on Chelsea’s radar after a superb season with West Ham, but Tuchel is also looking at Benfica midfielder Julian Weigl as a cheap alternative, according to the Telegraph.

Weigl played under Tuchel at Dortmund and was a key player for his side, though he ended up falling out of favour and moving on to Portuguese football.

The 25-year-old still has his qualities, however, so could be a useful option for Chelsea to consider this summer.

Many CFC fans would surely prefer a big name like Rice, but Weigl would likely settle in quickly under Tuchel and could prove a more smart use of the club’s money.

West Ham surely won’t want to sell a star player like Rice to one of their rivals for anything other than huge money.
