Surprise could be on the cards as Tottenham eye three candidates to replace Jose Mourinho

There could be a surprise on the cards for Tottenham this summer as Fabrizio Romano writes on Benchwarmers with a latest update on the Spurs managerial situation.

Jose Mourinho was recently axed by the north London giants, and Ryan Mason has been placed in charge on a temporary basis, though it’s not yet clear who will take the job permanently.

Tottenham fans will be hoping for a big name, but Romano says the club aren’t ruling out a surprise appointment, with three candidates currently in mind.

Romano is not clear about who those three managers are, but it’s suggested that Brendan Rodgers is perhaps unlikely as Leicester City fully plan to keep the Northern Irish tactician after his tremendous success at the King Power Stadium.

The report also adds that Spurs failed to hire Erik ten Hag from Ajax, while departing Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick is not an option as he’ll be taking charge of the German national team.

We’re not sure how many particularly great options that leaves for Tottenham, but it will be fascinating to find out who their surprise candidates might be.
