Ian Wright questions if one Arsenal player cared enough in defeat against Brighton

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has questioned if one Gunners player cared enough as the team crumbled in a disappointing 3-0 home defeat against Brighton yesterday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side’s slim title hopes are now all but over as Manchester City need just one more win to be confirmed as champions for the third year in a row, and in the end Arsenal will feel they let themselves down with the manner of their defeat against Brighton.

It was all too easy for Roberto de Zerbi’s side, and former Arsenal striker Wright was disappointed with the way Leandro Trossard lost the ball at such a critical moment, which led to the second goal.

The Belgian winger, who has generally impressed since his move to the Emirates Stadium in January, was far too casual in a dangerous area, trying to flick the ball around his opponent, only to gift the Seagulls an easy chance, which they took.

Speaking on Premier League productions, as quoted by the Metro, Wright questioned if Trossard really cared enough at that vital moment.

“That is a difficult thing he’s trying, to play the ball round the corner into his teammate with the outside of his left foot,” Wright said. “Trossard has to read the situation, he’s got enough space to turn to his right and maybe paly it to Kieran Tierney.

“That was somebody who’s come off the bench and I don’t know if he’s up to speed with the game or whether he cares enough at that particular moment, because the way he flicked his left foot out at that was not right at that stage of the game.

“You can’t give the ball away, you can’t lose the ball. Especially in the manner he did it there, it’s almost flippant. You’re not getting away with that.”
