Shady dealing over supposed sponsorship payments has put Man City back in the dock again

Posted by

Controversy seems to be following Man City around at every turn just now, rendering their recent treble win as yesterday’s news.

Since breaking their Premier League hoodoo back in 2012, the Cityzens have gone on to become the most successful side in the English top-flight over the past decade.

Under Pep Guardiola, the current champions of England and Europe have gone from strength to strength, playing some of the best football ever seen in an English league.

Unfortunately, there have always been underlying issues that have dogged the club and that won’t seem to go away.

There’s the significant matter of 115 separate charges being brought against the club for various apparent misdeamours, per The Times (subscription required) as a start point.

At present, the club and its employees have chosen not to speak about them, other than Guardiola’s proclamation that he would leave the club immediately if he felt he had been lied to.

Now, however, yet another issue has reared its ugly head above the parapet.

According to The Times (subscription required), a leaked report has uncovered that an unnamed person or persons from the United Arab Emirates paid £30 million to the club which UEFA have deduced should’ve come from a main sponsor, Etisalat.

However, it appears the funds were disguised equity funding supplied by City’s owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG), headed by Sheikh Mansour.

It’s yet another murky scenario for the club, and the sooner the truth is uncovered the better for all concerned.

    1. Bribes may already in place. If it was Liverpool they would have been punished by now. How long does it take, 13 years and still not done.

      1. Dippers constantly framing the world like there is an injustice to them. Your years of hurt will never end!

  1. there has been enough talk its time to act just kick them out of the premier League and champions League and take the premier Leagues that thay have stolen from other clubs

    1. When its over I don’t think City have actually killed anybody, and when the punishment is dished out,City have not Cheated anybody to get these trophies, 30 million is not big money, United just paid more than that for Mason Mount and they are in debt.

      1. Idiot. Cheating is cheating. 10p or £100 million. Strip them of CL trophy and relegated to division one. How will they cope then?

        1. Played46
          Won 46
          Goal for150+
          Goal against less than 20
          Promoted December
          On holiday in January

        2. They will still be the best team in the UK no matter what division they are in so am.sure they will cope quite well

    2. Look im a united fan, and don’t particularly like cities purple patch, but its there turn, they got lucky with there owner we got unlucky with ours, I for one think the ffp rules are bullshit, I don’t see why a owner should have to explain how much of his money he invests into HIS CLUB

  2. Can’t take away their titles but can relegate them to the third tier.. like Rangers and the Italian team. They also should be banned from from transfers for the length of time the misdemeanours occurred.

    1. You can take away their titles though and award them elsewhere. Can’t compensate others for lost European football but can change the records.

  3. If they have proof of Man City breaking the rules they should throw the book at them that are no different to anyone else but all I say is money talks and they will get away with it and same goes for Everton the English fa are a set of bottless gets it as been one rule for big teams but harsh punishment to not popular teams it stinks and it is corrupt it will never change why should Man City and Everton benifit from this I feel for Leicester,Leeds ,and runner up of the premier league

    1. Nice of you to declare that City are a ‘big team’ We usually get hounded for being a small team with no history

  4. Hilarious how this keeps coming up. Pretty well known that City have a dossier on the ‘big picture’ of corruption in football – especially with UEFA.
City should stop playing nice and just bring the whole house of cards down once and for all.
Best thing is City living rent free in the heads of bitter fans – especially the best friends – liverpool and Utd.

    1. What a wally. Typical city fan. If it was other clubs getting away with it at city’s expense you’d be bitter and have plenty to say about it.

  5. There is an awful lot of jealousy going around .
A TEAM that has produced stunning football . Better than most .
And all supposedly football fan can only complain and accuse . If their team wasn’t good enough then it’s their fault . City have proved that they are way above any team . They are just men that play as a team led by a brilliant coach/manager.

    1. That has cheated and bought its way to the top. If what you say is true then they had no need to repeatedly break the rules and buy and cheat their way to the top and keep covering it up did they?

  6. That has cheated and bought its way to the top. If what you say is true then they had no need to repeatedly break the rules and buy and cheat their way to the top and keep covering it up did they?

  7. Not a Man C supporter but amired their football they don,t cheat on the pitch but they have to be punished some how I think dropping them down a couple of leagues right
Why cheat they have enough money mega rich owners

  8. The lawyers they are using all have shares in city
There as bent as bananas 😂😂

  9. Don’t care about any Premier League team, it is bad enough struggling with FFP in the EFL Championship. Allowed loss of £30 million in a three year period then you read about United making a profit but their accumulated debt rose to £750 million.
Where are the questions about that? I make a profit and any debts diminish. Their accountants must be magicians..

  10. Mancity gets away with to much if it was anyone else they would have had thebook thrown at them

  11. Many citeh fans crying jealousy if its reported on commented on.

115 charges, sold out UEFA and CAS……

    Bring on their demise
