Hammers now pursuing manager with completely different style to David Moyes

West Ham may consider pursuing a seasoned attacking manager from Ligue 1 in the event of David Moyes’ departure in the summer.

Just weeks ago, it appeared likely that Moyes would receive a contract extension from West Ham. However, the team’s winless start to the year has seemingly delayed any decision on this matter.

Despite expectations of an extension for Moyes at West Ham, rumours of potential replacements have surfaced. Should the current poor form persist, the club may need to consider alternatives, with Lille’s Paulo Fonseca reportedly being among the targets, as indicated by Football Fancast.

Fonseca boasts a highly successful managerial career, having led clubs in Portugal, Shakhtar Donetsk, Roma, and currently Lille. His preferred style of play contrasts sharply with West Ham’s current approach, emphasising attacking football and ball possession.

For fans critical of Moyes’ style, Fonseca represents a significant transition. His appointment would bring about a complete transformation, catering to those yearning for a more dynamic brand of football. Whether such a change aligns with the club’s needs remains uncertain.

For what it’s worth, the club’s constant links with employed managers suggest they’re not inclined to opt for a cheap option if a change in leadership occurs. Their priority will be to ensure that any new appointment can maintain the positive trajectory of West Ham’s progress.

That old saying: “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it”, springs to mind. While Fonseca would undoubtedly demand more attacking qualities, does that necessarily mean the Hammers would score more goals? For what it’s worth, Moyes has built a perfectly balanced team, and if they do choose pursue a different manager, that could potentially upset the apple cart at the London Stadium.

  1. “A perfectly balanced team”, it’s pretty obvious from that statement that you don’t watch us very often. We don’t have a left sided forward of any note and Moyes has tried to shoehorn numerous individuals into that position to no avail. Then you have the proverbial passenger Soecuk, which he refuses to drop no matter how horrendous his performance. Yeah perfect balance my friend.
