Liverpool have been dealt a major blow ahead of their Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea at the end of the month as Trent Alexander-Arnold will not be available for selection.

The first major trophy of the season will be up for grabs at Wembley on 25 February with both teams heading into the clash with different objectives.

The Reds are looking to push for a quadruple this season, while this may be the Blues’ only chance to win a trophy during the current campaign.

According to the Guardian, Jurgen Klopp has received a setback ahead of the final as Alexander-Arnold will miss the match through injury.

The right-back was forced off after 45 minutes on Saturday as Liverpool beat Burnley 3-1 having felt pain in the same knee where he suffered a lateral ligament tear in the FA Cup victory against Arsenal on 7 January.

Klopp explained after the win that the defender caught his studs in the pitch and that is how the injury was aggravated.

Trent Alexander-Arnold to miss Carabao Cup final

This is a major blow for Liverpool as Alexander-Arnold is a major player in Klopp’s team. The full-back is crucial to the Reds’ system and is one of their best creators. The 25-year-old has scored two goals this season across 29 appearances but has also produced 10 assists.

In addition to the final, the defender will miss Premier League matches against Brentford and Luton Town as it remains unclear just how long the England star will be out of action.
