Exclusive: “All parties” set deadline to consider summer move for Chelsea star, says transfer expert

All parties could be ready to consider a summer transfer window move for Conor Gallagher to leave Chelsea if a new contract isn’t agreed by June or July, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, the transfer news journalist explained that Gallagher’s situation hasn’t really changed recently, even if there have been some ongoing rumours about interest from Tottenham.

Romano confirmed that it’s been clear for some time that Spurs like the player, with manager Ange Postecoglou a big fan of the England international’s qualities, but it remains the case that there hasn’t been any approach made for him so far.

It could be that things will change as we get nearer the summer, according to Romano, who says Chelsea will still have the chance to discuss a new deal for Gallagher, but if nothing is agreed by then then it seems everyone involved would be prepared to consider a departure from Stamford Bridge.

Conor Gallagher in action for Chelsea

“I’m aware that Conor Gallagher stories are always in the media but my honest understanding is that there is nothing new to report right now,” Romano said.

“We stated multiple times that Tottenham like him and that Ange Postecoglou is a big fan, but the real news will be if and when Spurs make an approach to Chelsea, but this hasn’t happened so far.

“Chelsea still have a chance to extend his contract until June/July, otherwise all parties will consider a summer move.”

Tottenham fans will surely be keeping a close eye on this situation, as Gallagher has impressed a lot in the Premier League this season and looks like he’d be an ideal fit in Postecoglou’s side.

Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, will surely be hoping his board can strike a deal to keep the 24-year-old, as it would be a major blow to lose him to a rival before he even reaches his peak years.
