Chelsea have been linked with the move for the Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for a while.
A report from Calciomercato claims that they are now prepared to intensify their efforts to sign the striker. Apparently, the Blues are ‘ready to attack’ along with PSG for the 25-year-old.
Osimhen has established himself as one of the finest goalscorers in European football and he helped Napoli win the league last season. The Nigerian has nine goals and three assists across all competitions this season.
Chelsea could certainly use someone like him to lead the attack. Nicolas Jackson has been quite underwhelming since joining the Premier League club, and they need to bring in an upgrade on the former Villarreal striker.
Osimhen will add a clinical present upfront and he could transform Chelsea going forward. However, the Blues could find it difficult to convince the player to join them without Champions League football.
It is fair to assume that a player of his quality will want to compete at the highest level and the Blues might not finish in the top four this season. On the other hand, PSG will be able to provide him Champions League football and an exciting project.
In addition to that, his €130 million asking price could be an issue as well. Chelsea have spent freely in the recent windows and they will need to balance the books now. Without Champions League football, their revenues will take a hit and the Blues might not be able to spend a record amount of money on the striker.
It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds over the next few months. Osimhen would improve both Chelsea and PSG immensely. He is a world-class striker who has proven himself with consistent displays at a high level.
