Tottenham’s surprise move for Ledley King’s cousin who can’t get a game at current club

It’s been a fascinating season so far for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur, and with 10 games left to play, the North Londoners are still very much in with a chance of securing Champions League football for next season.

An unexpected loss at Fulham at the weekend will have come as a blow given that Spurs are just three points behind Aston Villa with a game in hand.

Unai Emery’s side currently sit in fourth place and had Tottenham not lost to the West Londoners, they would’ve been level with Villa going into the international break and still have that game in hand.

In any event, wherever Spurs finish this season, they still have to make plans for new signings, and it appears that Postecoglou has identified his back line as one area that needs attention.

To that end, Football Transfers are reporting that the North Londoners are keen to make a move for West Ham’s out-of-favour full-back, Ben Johnson.

Tottenham want West Ham’s Ben Johnson

The 24-year-old is Ledley King’s cousin and the former Tottenham captain has recommended Johnson to the club.

Given that he can barely get a game – 17 in all competitions during 2023/24 per WhoScored – it could be something of a gamble for Postecoglou to take.

However, if there’s one thing that football fans have learned about the Australian, it’s that he’s a straight talker and will do things his way.

If Johnson is acquired it’s because the manager can see the sense in such a deal, and the fact that the player has turned down West Ham’s overtures regarding a new contract could make him more of an attractive proposition to the Hammers London rivals.
