Manchester United are currently leading the race to sign Atalanta’s Ederson, ahead of other top clubs including Arsenal, according to prominent Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.

The 26-year-old Brazilian, who has been a standout performer in Serie A, is increasingly likely to head to Old Trafford this summer.

While Atletico Madrid were previously considered the frontrunners, United’s financial muscle and a lucrative contract offer have shifted the momentum firmly in their favor.

Man United leading the race to sign Ederson

Speaking via Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Moretto revealed that several Premier League sides have stepped up their interest.

However, the Red Devils have made the most significant move, reportedly offering a salary that surpasses the proposals currently on the table from Spain.

Moretto said: “I can tell you that Manchester United are currently the club that has shown the most interest, offering around €4.5 million net per year.

“Arsenal have also made enquiries, though Ederson is not a priority for them. Right now, United appear to have the strongest financial capacity.”

While a personal agreement seems closer, United still face the task of negotiating a transfer fee with Atalanta.

The Italian side is known to be tough negotiators and is expected to demand a high fee, likely in the region of £39 million (€45-50m), for their midfield engine.

Man United need to bolster the midfield this summer

The pursuit of Ederson comes at a critical time for Manchester United’s midfield.

Following a season of transition under Michael Carrick, the club is preparing for a significant clearing of the decks.

Manuel Ugarte is expected to be sold after failing to cement a regular starting spot, while veteran Casemiro has decided to leave the club at the end of this season, with interest from the MLS.

With Kobbie Mainoo recently signing a new long-term deal until 2031, United have secured a generational talent to build around.

However, the departures mean, United will need to bring in replacements.

To bolster the squad for their return to the Champions League, United are reportedly looking to sign at least two midfielders.

  1. Ederson is an outstanding prospect whom Manchester United should seriously consider pursuing. He is exceptionally creative, blisteringly quick, and possesses an impressive command of the ball, coupled with a natural instinct for goal-scoring. When he is on the pitch, he plays with such relentless intensity that it often feels as though he has an endless reserve of energy. His dynamism and unpredictability make him a constant threat in every phase of play.

The club would also benefit greatly from acquiring Adam Wharton, a highly intelligent left‑footed midfielder. His creativity is matched by his remarkable ability to read the game at speed, anticipate movements, and dictate tempo with maturity beyond his years. He, too, carries a goal threat and consistently demonstrates composure in advanced positions.

Additionally, Manchester United should look to bring in Sandro Tonali as a long‑term successor to Casemiro. Tonali needs no introduction—his presence in midfield is defined by tactical clarity, technical excellence, and an innate understanding of how to control possession under pressure. He is perpetually composed, purposeful with every touch, and consistently aware of the best passing lanes and attacking opportunities.

Collectively, these players would inject creativity, intelligence, and energy into the squad, strengthening the team’s long‑term structure and competitive edge.

  2. Ederson is truly one of the golden talents in the modern game. He embodies everything you want in a dynamic, all‑action midfielder. His explosive pace, exceptional creativity, and ability to score from virtually any angle on the pitch make him a rare gem in today’s football landscape. He reads and masters the rhythm of the game faster than most midfielders currently playing at the top level.

When Ederson steps onto the field, he plays with such relentless intensity that it almost feels as though he possesses an extra reservoir of energy. His stamina mirrors that of a marathon runner—constantly moving, constantly pressing, constantly driving the team forward. He is the definition of a box‑to‑box midfielder, capable of influencing the match from one end to the other with equal brilliance.

This is precisely the kind of player Manchester United should act swiftly to secure—even before the transfer window officially opens. His potential is enormous, his impact immediate, and his ceiling world‑class. Delaying could allow other clubs to swoop in, and missing out on a player of his calibre would be a costly oversight.

Ederson is not just a promising talent; he is a future cornerstone, and the time to bring him to Old Trafford is now.

  3. Ederson is my number one recruitee. The guy has gas indeed. Hehe covers ground like nothing else. He can tackle, retain possession, move the ball and score goals. That’s the type of players we’re looking for.
We’ll also need a perfect DM player to replace Casemiro, atleast two midfielders and if urgate goes as it looks thrn three.
