Are Everton fans ready to say goodbye to AJ?
by Dexter on June 24th, 2008 Everybody’s favourite tabloid The Sun reckons that Everton will start off their summer transfer shenanigans by getting rid of one of their strikers.
With rumours rife that Moyes is having a sniff around Darren Bent (as yes, we know Moyes poo-pooed this Tottenham-tinged transfer tale but that seems like a smokescreen), The Sun takes the next logical step and has mapped out a Goodison exit route for bald striker Andy Johnson, with four Premier League clubs apparently waiting for him:
ASTON VILLA will lead a £7million chase for Everton striker Andy Johnson.
But they face competition for AJ from Wigan, Middlesbrough and West Ham. (The Sun)
Johnson - who could have pursued a career as a sub-standard and pint-sized Beckham lookalike if he hadn’t decided to be a sub-standard Premier League striker instead, was at one point Everton’s record signing, but AJ’s goals have been few and far between, especially for a former record signing. Will the Goodison faithful be sad to see him go?

i cannot see moyes gettin rid of anyone else until he at least brings a few players in, that was his main priority this summer, to expand the squad.
i hope for one Aj does not leave, ok he is not the most productive forward in the prem but he certainly is one of the hardest workers and worries defences every time he is on the pitch.

We should keep Jonson without a shadow of a doubt. People are wrongly slating his season last year, but this is unjustified. Look at his goals to games tally, it wors out to 1 goal every 3 games, which is not a bad record at all, also considering a lot were sub appearances. People will underestimate him next season which will be to our advantage. Keep him and get Darren Bent, he offers something different. Im a bit annoyed that we have lost out on Arshavin….Im thinking this was down to the board but can’t be sure. Too little too late.

A decent bid is going to see AJ leave but who is going to pay 10 million for a striker that cant score goals ?
No doubting his superb pace and workrate but he simply has no skill.
I have been an admirer of his for the last few seasons as he has made up for the running the Yak has’nt done but running is not simply enough when you are pushing for Champions league,
Bent on the other hand Has Pace and skill and we could pick him up for 10 million i would say, so would look like a decent bet for me to see him up north next season.
On the other hand we cant afford to see anyone leave with a team made up with about 20 players.
Kenwright Get your bloody hand in your pocket and lets have both players

I am a very well imformed tottenham fan and can assure you that Darren Bent will not be joining your ranks this summer he has his heart set on a regular start for Ramos .If he was to leave, believe me, he would refuse a move up there.

Andy Johnson has continually said he is happy at Everton, David Moyes has said he will not sell him & that he’s not interested in Bent. Spursalmighty reckons bent doesn’t want to leave & I believe him. This rumour surfaces every transfer window getting bored with it now

Aj is one of those players who can sometimes look like he’s done nothing in the game, and with few chances not score, but when you see stats on how much he’s run (closing down),and the running into channels which stretches teams and creates more space,he is vital to everton,as long as he has a goalscorer alongside him.
I for one would love him to stay,he is better than bent, and once he gets a couple of goals it does his confidence wonders, and is one player who should get a lot more pens and freekicks than he gets.Hes one of the fastest in the league, with and without the ball, and if you run at that speed, the slightest knock will send you off balance, and it frustrates me that people dont see that, especially refs.
I think he is vital to efc.COYB.
