Liverpool plan shock £20m bid: Would be perfect partner for Torres!
by Mr Comfort on June 29th, 2008This underrated Tottenham striker is a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League, but outside of White Hart Lane, rarely gets the praise he deserves. Now it seems he has a fan in Rafa Benitez!
Liverpool want Robbie Keane to wear their famous No 7 shirt next season.
Kop boss Rafa Benitez plans a £20million player-plus-cash offer involving wantaway striker Peter Crouch.
But Tottenham have resisted the first tentative Anfield approach for striker Keane.
Spurs told the Reds they would be wasting their time making a formal bid for the Irish ace.
That will not dissuade Benitez, who has decided a forward line of Keane and Fernando Torres is the key to an improved domestic campaign.
Benitez is prepared to restructure his tactical plans to accommodate Keane by pushing Steven Gerrard back into his favoured central midfield role.
Keane’s loyalty to Spurs will be tested now Benitez’s interest is public.
The 27-year-old, who has been at White Hart Lane since 2002, is settled in North London. (News of the World)
Keane has scored a dozen plus goals in each of his six seasons at Spurs, and a total of 107 goals in a shade over 200 starts is mighty impressive. The Irishman gets through a great deal of work and is much admired at WHL but could he be tempted by a move to Anfield? Would Spurs appreciate Liverpool man Peter Crouch in exchange for Keano or would they deem this a step down?

I have always admired Robbie Keane and he is as you point out underrated, he would work well with Torres as well, so could well be a good deal.

Good player. It’s not true though
Mick Wirral - June 29th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Good player, good for the domestic league push, experienced, Liverpool supporter, maybe the ‘good english speaking player who isn’t english’ the Rafa was talking about? But £20 million? You’ve got to be joking! £15m at the very most.
makkal sakti - June 29th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
barry seal for 15mil or less if we sees him buying out himself…way go barry..
RobinC LFC - June 29th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
I could see Keano working well off Torres and his movement is good and he would be able to score and create goals. I’m not too sure i would be able to see this happening though because Spurs wouldnt want to lose a top striker like him. However it is a known fact that Keano supported LFC when he was a young lad growing up in Tallaght. So you never know! I’d much rather see Voronin go then Crouchy.

makkal sakti - June 29th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
guys..we might get him.all happens after EURO .number 7 would be SILVA..hahaha..get him for god sake… with him playin on the left or right wing will eventually wins us more freekicks and the rest … GERRARD on the scoresheet again.

keane is complete class solid, impassioned, brave, hard working team player mixed with massive talent and intelligence. would be an absolute legend at liverpool if he came and an actual number 7 (in the liverpool guise) to finally follow the last great one at anfield Peter Beardsley ,thats almost 20 years ago. Probably won’t happen though but Liverpool are screaming for a player like that creating in the hole, it’s not Gerrard’s position
essexspur - June 29th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
literally 2 weeks ago Keane publicly dedicated the rest of his career to spurs

I’m off for a Cerveza now not had one for ages damned rafa not letting me have that or Rjioca. El Bar stewardo.

king keano's kinky kicks - June 29th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
would be great with torres. anyway, whether we get villa, silva, keane, barry, bentley, downing, milner or santa, it’ll all come out over the coming few days.
personally, i hope the reason that we haven’t seen more players signed very early, as rafa had predicted, is because we’ve been forced to wait is because two of them are currently celebrating in vienna with the letters ‘L’, ‘V’, ‘I’ & ‘A’, in their surnames!!!!
Jamoomoo - June 29th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
I’d love to see Robbie up there with nando- can’t see it though- he is Spurs captain for fs! I’d rather Robbie than Barry, Milner or Bentley. I can’t see him leaving Spurs tho. Better him than half the English second-raters we have been connected with.
