Liverpool ready to bid for £20m wing wizard: Would be a great Anfield recruit!
by Mr Comfort on July 8th, 2008Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has a big battle on his hands to land a new winger.
Valencia’s David Silva is the man he would really love to sign, but if the Spaniards continue to demand around £20m, the deal would be a non-starter. (Daily Mirror)
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will step up efforts to secure his primary transfer targets after agreeing a fee with Portsmouth for the sale of striker Peter Crouch.
Espanyol winger Albert Riera, Real Mallorca’s Borja Valero, Real Madrid’s Ruben De La Red and Valencia’s David Silva have all been mentioned as potential targets. (Irish Times)
Liverpool may again raid La Liga, with Valencia’s David Silva and Espanyol’s Albert Riera. (Soccer365.com)
With Xabi Alonso apparently not exit-bound, Rafa may need to find a little more cash to go with the Crouch-selling funds in order to beef up his move for the fantastic David Silva. The tricky winger would be a damn good purchase, but the asking fee may be a little steep. Some are a little concerned about how the slightly-built Spaniard would cope with the physical demands of the English game. Would Silva be one of the Liverpool faithful’s top priority players to chase, or are there others they should be concentrating on?

simply a rumour. lots of rumours nowadays. i want david villa to pair torress but no serious efforts by rafa yet.
Paul Aus - July 8th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Definately, he is all class!
Abe - July 8th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Silva is class! Silva, like Babel, can play on both flanks. Nice! With them 2 competing with Keane and Kuyt, we’ll be safe for the season. That would mean five players (Kuyt, Keane, Silva, Torres and Babel) competing for three positions over the course of the season. Of course Kuyt and Keane can also cover for Torres.
EFC - July 8th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Liverpool cant afford him now Alonso is staying they only have £10m to spend from Crouch hahaha
MG - July 8th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
EFC,
Liverpool cant afford Silva even more if they sold Alonso and bought Barry, seeing how Barry’s price tag is ridiculously higher than that of Alonso’s.
Ben - July 8th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Would be a good move defiently!
jocke - July 8th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Silva is a good winger but my dream signing this summer is definitely Rafael Van Der Vaart. Van Der Vaart is a class player and he could play in both attacking midfielder/winger positions in our 4-2-3-1, just like he does in the national team. Silva is great but i’d prefer Van Der Vaart, about the other players; Riera, Valero and De La Red i think we should sign Ruben De La Red just for his name. Imagine De La Red playing for the reds
Banksy - July 8th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Silva, would be the buy of the season for Liverpool. Rafa knows how much money he has to spend and we will all know in a few weeks. I think he has £30 million plus cash from sales of players could be £40m we may have a budget of £70m.
Watch this space……. EFC
EFC - July 8th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Oh sad deluded kopites you really dont know do you as most of you dont live in the city that you lost £30m in a few months aswell as £2m just for your owners spending the clubs money you are also in over £600m debt and shall you miss out on the Champions League next season or not make it past the groups this season you will need to sell players fast. Poor poor club then again it is only right you suffer for the shame you bring on this country and this city.

2D - July 8th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
we would play very much like the spain midfied (best in world at moment) if we signed siva a holding player in masch, two interchangable wingers who swich sides at the drop of a hat in silva and babel and gerrard leading in the middle, with torres and another striker up front we would definately be contenders
Liverpool Andy - July 8th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
EFC… u gobshite, Carra is from Bootle and Stevie G is from Huyton! neither from Kirkby!!! i’m guessing u mite be tho, dumbass

Your dreaming if you think the most decorated club in this countries history could possibly do a Leeds. Even if we were £10 billion in debt thered always be buyers looking to own this great club for the history and prestige associated.
Blockman - July 8th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
David Silva would be a great signing for the club. Great left foot and can play on the right or off the striker.

Barry: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@28 I just don’t think it is a good investment. Good Player don’t get me wrong but not world class. We are very well equipped w/ midfielders especially if Zoe stays. We need Wingeeeeeeers Rafa
maxta - July 9th, 2008 at 1:45 am
Its great to see envious supporters watching every Liverpool move & hanging around this website.Although it shows the lack of excitement in their own teams backyard it shows LFC is the most respected club in the world. Sign just 1 world class winger & we own every competition on offer!!!
Dave - July 9th, 2008 at 2:20 am
Silva is a fantastic player..skilled and tricky. We need that. The midfield sometimes plays too direct football that’s predictable. Guys like Silva or even Arshavin can give you something different and eye catching just like the EURO. Two big doubts : Number 1. Do we have the fucking cash to splash ? Number 2. Like the editor said can Silva cope with the physical ability of the English game?..We all had our doubts on Torres coz we thought he would turn out to be like Morientes but Torres is BIG , FAST , SKILLFULL AND GREAT MENTAL STRENGTH AS HE KNOWS WHAT IS REQUIRED TO SCORE A GOAL..Lets wait and see.
LFC4EVER - July 9th, 2008 at 6:39 am
Who is EFC? What is EFC? Is this a football club? Never heard before. Which planet is this so-called football club located? No idea. Sigh…let’s forget about this EFC.
LFC 4eva - July 9th, 2008 at 7:35 am
where is efc these days haha. milito the new signing haha. everton offer a 12month loan deal rather than try and buy because they are a bunch of tramps. milito comes out and says i would rather sign for genoa haha you couldnt write this stuff!! concentrate on your own club ‘mate’.

Typical bitter blue, all flash and bravado earlier this year, but after one goal from Fernando Torres on a sunny sunday afternoon, you all went crawling back under your rocks, to generate more excuses for the failings of your club. Still, we shouldnt expect anything more from a club who SURRENDERED their big club status (won the league in ‘87, three years before we did last, yet when was their last title challenge?) and are now desperately trying to get it back.
Everyone rests uneasy with the notion that Liverpool could win the league once, and dominate it again. This is the legacy of a truly great club.
No matter how rubbish our team is, no matter how good your team is, the reaction by the initial response (right at the top of the posts here ) to us being linked with another player is what i am reacting to. Frankly the only other reaction that Everton get from me is a bellyfull of laughter when they commemorate the mediocre, and try to impose some kind of local superiority, even though trophies and facts say something completely different.

EFC you call yerself a scouser. Sad lad ….. real scousers don’t slag off bitterly about people from their own town, based on their footy team ….. it’s not our way…. Like a lot of us here, I have family that support both sides of Stanley Park ……We leave that bitterness stuff to the mancs and cockneys. …. maybe you should think about moving over that way…… plazy.

Dear EFC and other people, I am an Italian fan of Liverpool (Fc and city). As a present for my wedding, I received from my friends a weekend in the marvellous city of Liverpool. I adored the city, people, the accent, everything… And I visited the most moving, important, significant stadium in England and in Liverpool, and it was Anfield road. I did not visit Goodison PArk because I had no time and a fewer interest than in LFC stadium… For sure Liverpool FC, apart from being the team I support so firmly, LFC stadium, the infrastructure, the facilities, are one thing every Liverpool citizen should be proud of.

The media quoted that the Nadal vs Federer final on Sunday was the final of all finals. To me, a bluenose EFC fan taking about football in front of mighty LFC fans is the joke of all jokes.

You need a brain my friend Huyton and Bootle are not in Liverpool, Huyton is Knowsley like Kirkby and Bootle is Sefton.
You bring shame on this city with your vile fans fighting and killing people.
Everton too have a great history being the 4th most successful English club with 0 kills and also if it wasn’t for Everton there would be no Liverpool always remember that.
Bill Vector - July 9th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
All I remember, EFC, is… you’re a kunt
Stu - July 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Bootle is in the Liverpool Urban Area, unlike Kirkby.
