Arsenal line up £12m bid for next VIEIRA: Could be final piece of the puzzle!
by Mr Comfort on July 20th, 2008Arsene Wenger has guaranteed that he intends to bring at least one more name in before the new season, could this be that man?
Arsene Wenger has identified a new midfielder for Arsenal Football Club next season.
Ever since Patrick Vieira left the Gunners for Juventus Wenger has been trying to find someone capable of filling the void left by the inspirational Frenchman’s departure.
And reports in Spain claim the Emirates Stadium chief has decided the man capable of taking in such a role is Yaya Toure, the brother of current Arsenal defender Kolo.
The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international only arrived at Barcelona last summer in an £8million transfer, and Wenger is prepared to pay around £12million to take him to England. (fansfc.com)
When asked whether Gunners fans can expect to see a more mature player arriving at Emirates Stadium, Wenger replied: “What do you call old? Yes 25 [and over] is very old at Arsenal! We can get one player with experience, yes.” (Setanta Sports)
So could Arsene have been referring to Yaya? Kolo Toure’s brother has been on the Gunners radar for a while now and given all the activity at the Camp Nou it could be that the new Barcelona boss Josep Guardiola’s plans don’t include the Ivorian who has hinted in the past a eagerness to join his brother at the Emirates, could this be the right time for such a move, he would much appreciated at Arsenal as they lack a player of experience in the position Yaya would ably fill. Do Arsenal fans think this long running target could be a player Wenger brings in this summer?

Yaya is just the kind of player we need. The kind of player to provide a fulcrum for the side, lets hope he is the one player Arsene has promised us.
Luca Brasi - July 20th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Are you sure this is accurate?? i haven’t seen it on any news websites…
Well if it is, then i’m not so sure barca would sell him for any less than 20mill to be honest… Just seems another misguided rumour.
hamoudinho - July 20th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
yes I do feel he could be the solution to our defensive midfield vacancy. He fits the arsene wenger criteria of being young and talented, i can see him filling the flamini/gilberto role perfectly. He is quite physical as well so i dont think he needs that much time to adapt to the premierleague.
I fear however that Arsene will not get a defensive midfielder as he may rely on Diaby and Denilson to fill that gap
Fran - July 20th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
To Luca Brasi, we have been linked with Yaya for a while, this story was on fans and i think Setanta is quoted as well. I think Yaya might be a bit more expensive, but he would sure be a good signing.
dan - July 20th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
after watching several barca matches in sequence, i’m beginning to understand arsene’s reluctance to sign yaya. yaya runs around a lot but is not very fast and doesn’t tackle very much. we already have players who run around a lot and don’t do much. if he comes to emirates he should be prepared to step up.
a true arsenal fan - July 20th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
what about this team if we sign yaya? like 4-1-3-2
1st team/ Almunia
Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
Yaya.Toure
Rosicky(when he’s back) Fabregas Nasri
Eduardo(when he’s back)
Adebayor
2nd team/ Fabianski
Eboue Djourou Senderos Traore
Song/Diaby
Walcott Ramsey Van persie
Bendtner Vela
49 Unbeaten - July 20th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
This is just speculation! I WOULD like to see him come to the true home of football but one thing just doesn’t add up, why would Wenger buy Yaya now when he’s already had him on trial and rebuffed the offer to buy him? could he have improved so drastically that Wenger is admitting he was wrong not to take him earlier? I know the boss is more stubborn than that….
a true arsenal fan - July 20th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Oh sorry i forgot denilson, Merida, Barazite, etc
a true arsenal fan - July 20th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
this is how confident the arsenal are at the moment:
imagine the whole of holloway asked for rain,
the next day at holloway, only 1 chap brought an umbrella
soulrebel - July 20th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Sorry, in the healine you mention a 12m pound bid. Did you just make that up?
Moksha - July 20th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
In the healine u mention a 12m pound bid, but in the main article you have nothing substantial to back this up. Could you stop blogging bullsh*t please?
Thanks.
Lman - July 20th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Where is Denilson. song should pair either Djourou or Senderos as cd. I am sure Yaya Toure will be the best signing for that position or Barry but i would prefare barry because he his English so we dont get all that critisised by England again and plus Toure means we will be looking for some one to replace about 4 to 5 of our regular starter every 2 years when they go for african nation cup
Bursting through!!! - July 20th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
‘A true Arsenal fan’ are you serious? You wouldn’t have Robin VP in your first team!!!
Stone the crows…..
If Wenger is going to spend ‘£12million’ (mmmm…), why not spend £3mill more, chuck in Traore, and get Barry instead? That would solidify our midfielder for shizz…
Anonymous - July 20th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
i think your jumpin the gun abit hear mate jus cos he medntioned 25 doesnt mean anyfin. i would love to see yaya at emirates as he would b a gr8 replacement in midfield but i doubt it will happen
The Swede - July 20th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
wenger passed up the opportunity to sign yaya when he had trials at arsenal, and then again before he signed for barcelona
he’s a decent player but he’ll never play for arsenal
Nutty boy 3 - July 20th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Wouldn’t they have bought him as part of the Hleb deal??
Emeka - July 20th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Le Boss said one addition to the squad definite, but two maybe! : who said we cant get both Barry and Yaya? we lost Gilberto and Hleb remmebr?
Thisi will give Fab freedom upfront!
nick - July 20th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
lets not sign him please, i think it would be such a waste, alonso will be much better at the same price
Dan - July 20th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
To be completely honest I think we have plenty of central midfielders on our books who COULD do the job, such as: Diaby, Ramsey, Djourou, Touré (Kolo) and Song. I’d rather the boss concentrate on our real weakness…the goalkeeper. Almunia simply isn’t up to scratch to be our Number 1 and I simply don’t believe we can depend on him for big games.
I’d also like to see Adebayor go, remember what that mercenary has been saying and how he’s been behaving…he simply has to go. The Boss should be eyeing up a replacement (I actually mean improvement), maybe someone who can take his fair share of chances would be nice.
FABREGAS - July 20th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Why not pirlo from AC he is the best passer to fab and can track back alot not that we will need to imagin nasri (left) fab, pirlo (centre) rosicky(right)
p.s have to have RVP upfront madman leaving him out
get rid of ade to AC 10mill plus pirlo great pice of bees wax there
FABREGAS - July 20th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
I agree with dan GO FOR SHAY GIVEN BEST GOALIE IN PREM 4 YEARS NOW
man i should be arsen adviser lol
Toks - July 20th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
Look, Yaya is in the plans of Guardiola (according to Guardiola). If we were goin to get him we would have done a deal with Hleb sale. Stop posting wishful think as news.
No offence, but i’m just tired of these transfer rumors, they’re making less and less sense by the day.
aaron - July 21st, 2008 at 1:04 am
please do not post if you cannot substantiate your claims
mark - July 21st, 2008 at 2:39 am
why would wenger get yaya after selling hleb to barca, he would have used hleb to twist barcas arm if they were unsure on selling him and would have said to barca give me a player plus cash……………..this rumour makes no sense.
king - July 21st, 2008 at 2:44 am
i like him.get him prof!!
GoonerIndia - July 21st, 2008 at 5:12 am
Pirlo is an attacking mid fielder just like King Fab so we dont need Pirlo warming benches and taking home 100,000 a week.
Yaya would be a good addition but then I think it would’ve have been done with helb but we still have Ade’buy’our’ crap to sell so who knows but i am still a big fan of Alonso and i think even if he is 2 years older and 3 mil more expensive i would prefer him cuz he has a Big shot on him and wont we lie a DM who can shoot and score????
RassHenry - July 21st, 2008 at 6:09 am
Yaya Toure, would be a great addition to our team. Still, i prefer Barry over him, tho. If, we can land either one of this player. I’ll be happy.
Cheers
Hadjimusty - July 21st, 2008 at 7:22 am
I like to see yaya in the emirat stadium to relief our pain by selling Hleb Flamine. and more striker.to pair Adebayo. guners
olumuyiwa - July 21st, 2008 at 8:00 am
Yaya should have been included in hleb’s deal, this remour makes no sense to me,but to be more realistic we need a defensive midfilder that can complement Csec.Diaby would have perfectly fit in but he has not been palying in that position for Years and to me he look more of an attacking midfilder now but i trust Arsene and he will not disappoint we Gunnners.Let put our hope and mind together we can wins trophies come next season.GUNNNERS NIJA
Gibbons the hoop - July 21st, 2008 at 8:02 am
That would be some signing because both times Barca played Celtic he was superb and not even Scholes, Carrick, Gerrard and Kaka have been able to do that especially at Parkhead. mind you, with the exeption of Carrick, These are more attacking players but even still he conroled our midfield with ease and he’s so like toure in the way that he’s strong and quick. hope you get him or Barry because don’t want barry at Liverpool cause the way They’ve treated the deal with us (Aston Villa). Oh but dont get me wrong im also a celtic fan.
dennis - July 21st, 2008 at 8:20 am
Perfect move i would say for long time we have lacked such exprience and it has costed us titles and this has brought inconsistence within the team but with this move i think Arsenal will be a force to reckon.
Gooner for life - July 21st, 2008 at 8:45 am
What nobody likes diaby now? i thought he looked okay at times? what do our fellow gooners think?
Abbott - July 21st, 2008 at 9:25 am
Diaby the most right footed player in the prem yet wenger plays him on the left?? Would like to see him more centre.
This story is balls, there is no quotes except wenger thinks 25 is old.. how does that link yaya to us??
HOW CAN RVP be in second squad True arsenal Fan… MADNESS
emmanuel - July 21st, 2008 at 10:27 am
asene wenger have to kown that the departion of flamini and silver is a very big blow to the club. That position is very empt and we needed a player to fill that position that is the problem at hand,a player that will fill that position most be an expirened player. When i checked through arsenal web sit i was made to understand that arsene wenger is instrested on yaya toure. Is a very good news but we have been intrester on the player for a very long time. Please do not let these oppotunity to pass us because for now the particular person that will fit in that position is yaya toure arsene wenger should not affort to loss him now
arsenal 4evr - July 21st, 2008 at 10:53 am
yaya aint coming 2 the emirates… if he had 2 then wenger wud hav made sure tat hleb goes on a swap deal cos its highly improbable n illogical to take money on t hleb deal and then giv t same money back 2 barca for yaya…
besides barca doesnt want 2 sell yaya (though they have keita who plays in t same position wich cud caste some doubts on barca’s will 2 keep yaya)
and come t next season thers t african cup wen yaya n kolo wud b gone leaving a big hole in our defencive setup…
veloso wud be a wise option… else use denilson, diaby or song….instead of spending on yaya… and looking at t current situation wenger also wud be thinkin of doin somethin similar…
Fabregas 4 Priminister - July 21st, 2008 at 11:17 am
So many people are saying that we would’ve signed him first time round. Do people not know we agreed terms and he was coming untill he got his work permit rejected? Obviously not! And some say they want Barry over Toure haha. Obviously don’t watch Barcelona games as apart from Messi, he was their best player in every single game last year! Yaya to emirates = Arsenal win the league this year lads!
arsenal 4evr - July 21st, 2008 at 11:51 am
fabregas 4 primeminister:
dude… ur point substantiates t fact tat yaya wont b comin 2 t emirates… if he was t 2nd best playr at nou camp y will guardiola sel him at first place? barca aint like arsenal 2 sell their assets…
stop dreamin abt gettin yaya… guardiola wont sell him n wenger doesnt look keen enuf 2 buy him….
Darren Bent - July 21st, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Nobody mention about me! I’m still worth *GBP16m for god sake!
(*But still negotiable til GBP12m…plus I’m better looking than E’too)
Rhys - July 21st, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Yaya is obviously just a rumour as his brother plays here. Im fed up of speculation too, but speculation is what keeps us talking through the summer….papers have to sell and websites still have to have traffic running through them! But what worries me is the lack of rumours about a Goalkeeper….Alumina looked suspect in the first 45 mins on Saturday, he didn’t line up his wall properly.
I personally think we need three signings, cb, gk and a dmc.
(Im in Champ manager mode here!)
Fabregas 4 Priminister - July 21st, 2008 at 12:09 pm
He is very under-rated in Barca. You ask any Barca fans who they’re favourtire player is - it will be Messi, Xavi, Iniesta - not Toure. They don’t rate him how he deserves to be rated. He is top quality and I don’t see why Wenger wouldn’t spend the rest of his budget on him.
arsenal 4evr - July 21st, 2008 at 12:13 pm
hope so fabregas 4 primeminister…. i sincerely hope wenger does this n help us lift t prem n t champs league next season….

cheers
Don - July 21st, 2008 at 12:19 pm
arsenal4 ever has it right
Gaurdiola didn;t want to sell and Wenger didn’t want to buy.
They would have done a swap unless Yaya will be a makeweight for Adebayor but either of those players moving is unlikely as neither clubs wants to sell.
Yaya is definitely a great player though and I would love to have him here but it just won’t happen.
In Arsene we trust!
Los - July 21st, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Oh, c’mon. Yaya was on trial with us and he didn’t cut it. No way will Arsene go back…and now pay for him! haha
We’ll have to rely on the kids again :/
Fabregas 4 Priminister - July 21st, 2008 at 2:29 pm
yet another person who doesn’t know the facts. Wenger wanted Yaya, he came on trial and a contract was agreed. His work permit application was rejected and this was the reason he is not a gunner today.
Andreas - July 21st, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Don’t think so mate.
If it is going to happen why wasn’t it part of the hleb deal?
vc - July 21st, 2008 at 7:05 pm
yaya would b a great signing but i think we should get arshavin 2 replace hleb arshavin is just amazing he can play on both sides left and right, we should get 1 good deffender as a back up maybe cristian zapata or vincent kompany both r very young and great deffenders and 1 striker i would hav been happy wiv falcao but he said he isnt intrested in a move 2 arsenal so i would say maybe huntelaar him and van persie can play well together upfront i dunno about sergio aguero he is young and very talented jus d player wenger likes but he costs 2 much
aNaKiN99 - July 21st, 2008 at 7:35 pm
a few wise signings tat wenger cud make this season….
miguel veloso- as a perfect flamini replacement
huntelaar- as a perfect replacement for the mercenary ade
as far as the striker department is concerned we wont be tat badly hit considering the kinda promise tat nacer barazite (reserves) has shown so far… its only the defences tats worrying and wenger has shown uncharacteristic faith in it by stating he doesnt feel the necessity to strengthen t defences… take out toure n gallas (ordinary) n wat do we hav as cb options??? djourou, senderos, hoyte n song… of all these song looks decent n deserves a shot… hoyte n djourou are total waste of space in arsenal and senderos is a lazy donkey who if played will surely bring abt arsenal’s downfall…
i hope wenger does something abt this issue quickly cos having t strike force to score more than 2 goals wont do us any good if we hav a porous defence tat concedes more than 3 per game…
irishgooner - July 21st, 2008 at 10:08 pm
This is just more of the same tripe that appears on this blog. It’s not even speculation…..at least speculation could actually happen. No way is YaYa coming although that is a pity. Comfort you are a twat.

Fabregas 4 Priminister - July 22nd, 2008 at 11:28 am
if you think that Ray you have serious issues. Samir Nasri is France’s hottest new prospect. Also, wenger has promised one more signing at least. So lets see what happens before you make ridiculous statements
RassHenry - July 23rd, 2008 at 5:40 am
Ray, i’ve noticed that you like shopping & spend $$$ uselessly. Why not go & support Chel$ea or Man Ure as they can fullfill you stupid & ridicilous desire. We don’t need you as Arsenal fan, tho. F/Y/I, Arsene Wenger is the best manager in the bussiness & he knows what he is doing, ok. If you’re not happy…. just shut the F***k.
