Zenit and Anzhi keen on Etihad Stadium full-back.

Check in to Manchester United vs Manchester City

Zenit St Petersburg and Anzhi Makhachkala are both readying summer bids to land Manchester City full-back Maicon, TalkSport reports.

The 66-cap Brazilian international was once considered as the best right-back in the game for a brief spell during his time at Inter Milan, but he has struggled to cope with the pace of the Premier League since joining Manchester City last year.

He has made just 11 appearances for the Citizens this season thanks to a series of knee and ankle problems and manager Roberto Mancini’s preference towards Pablo Zabaleta.

City are looking to reduce their wage bill ahead of a squad reshuffle this summer and the Russian clubs are both keen on offering him a lifeline to resurrect his flailing career.

A move to Anzhi would see him reunited with former Inter teammate, Samuel Eto’o, with whom he won the Champions League in 2010, whereas a move to Zenit would see him link up with international compatriot Hulk. Both moves would most likely involve a healthy pay packet and all that’s left for him to do is choose.

The 31-year-old has an extensive list of personal and club honour to his name is probably best remembered by fans in this country for being turned inside out by Gareth Bale during a Champions League tie with Spurs in 2010.

Maicon is contracted to City until next summer but it’s thought that a fee of around £7 million will be enough to prize him away.
