Anfield side hoping to bring Spanish midfielder to Merseyside.
Liverpool are reportedly preparing a summer bid for Sporting Lisbon’s Diego Capel according to The Mirror.
The Spanish midfielder looks almost certain to leave the Portuguese side this summer with the club under severe financial pressures.
Lisbon are facing up to the prospect of having to sell a number of their key players and have already agreed a deal with Norwich for the sale of striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel.
Capel could well be next out of the door with Liverpool hoping to take advantage of Sporting’s precarious financial situation.
Brendan Rodgers has been told he will have just £20 million to spend on new recruits this summer and is hoping to find value in the summer transfer market.
That could pave the way for the arrival of Capel who has been putting in some impressive performances this season for Sporting and is a product of the Barcelona youth academy.
Liverpool are not the only club interested in a summer deal for Capel though. A number of top European sides could well provide Liverpool with stiff competition for the player’s signature.
Mareseille are thought to be ready to make a firm offer for the player but may find themselves unable to compete financially with the Premier League side.
