West Ham Face Battle To Sign Ligue 1 Star

West Ham hope to bring Valenciennes defender to Upton Park.

West Ham face some serious competition to land Nicolas Isimat-Mirin’s signature this summer according to TalkSport.

Hammers boss, Sam Allardyce, has been an admirer of the French defender this season and wants to bring him in to add an extra option to his back line as the club have just three recognised centre backs. James Collins, Winston Reid and James Tomkins have been on heavy rotation this term and the club want to make suitable additions to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle again.

However, Italian giants Roma have also been watching the 21-year-old and are thought to be priming a bid of their own as they see him as one for the future.

Isimat-Mirin is a graduate from the prestigious Clairefontaine academy and joined Valenciennes in 2010 where he has gone on to make just under 100 appearances for the northern French side.

The club are currently in 13th in the Ligue 1 table and the player has played a central role in their consolidation in the division. But it’s thought that they won’t be able to hold onto him for much longer and he will most likely seek a move for himself.

Valenciennes have valued him at £5 million and he is under contract until 2016, so they won’t have to drop the price should nobody want to match their valuation.
