French Ligue 1 newcomers Monaco are set to put a bid together to bring Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye back home this summer, according to The Express.

The 27-year-old has been a star performer for the Magpies ever since joining from Lille in 2011 and was reportedly being watched by the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal earlier this season.

However, the 27-year-old may be tempted to head back to France this summer after he became the latest transfer target for big spending Monaco.

The club’s billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev has already made a splash in the transfer market by spending a combined total of £110 million on Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao and Porto pair Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez. They have also brought in veteran defender Ricardo Carvalho on a free transfer too.

The news of their interest in Cabaye comes after they saw a £10 million bid rejected for his teammate Hatem Ben Arfa and boss Alan Pardew is already sweating over the future of a number of his star players following a difficult campaign that saw them finish just two places above the relegation zone.

Cabaye made 35 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring six goals.
