Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale is returning to the club with the intention of putting pressure on new signing Maarten Stekelenburg, Sky Sports reports.

The 27-year-old is returning to the west London side after spending the season on loan with Hull, who he helped secure Premier League football and he has insisted that he is focussed on life with his parent club regardless of the speculation that still surrounds him.

He had been linked with a permanent move to the Tigers as Steve Bruce continues to search for a regular number one custodian, but rumour has it that they’ve turned their attentions toward Aston Villa veteran Shay Given.

Fulham saw Mark Schwarzer leave the club this week, and Dutch international Maarten Stekelenburg arrive, meaning that Stockdale still has some significant competition in front of him.

“I’ve been trying to get back fit and getting ready for Fulham’s next campaign,” he said..

“I’m a Fulham player.

“This is the first year I’m not worried about my future because there’s not much going on.

“I’m just going to relax and enjoy my holiday, keep fit and prepare for another chapter at Fulham.”

Stockdale has been with the Cottagers since 2008 but has made just 26 appearances for the club in that time.
