The agent of Benfica playmaker Nicolas Gaitan has insisted that there have been no new offers for his client and that he fully expects him to stay with the Lisbon based giants this summer, Sky Sports reports.

The 25-year-old was a key figure in the Portuguese club’s heartbreaking season that saw them finish second in the table behind Porto and runners up to Chelsea in the Europa League final and his performances have caught the attentions of Manchester United and Arsenal, amongst others.

However, his agent, Jose Iribarren, has insisted that despite the near misses this season, Gaitan is keen to stay at the club and try again next year.

“For now, there is no formal offer,” said Iribarren.

“He wants to continue at Benfica next season. We know the rumours have been appearing in the newspapers but I cannot confirm that there is particular interest from one club.

“To repeat, Nico Gaitan is calm and happy at Benfica.”

The diminutive attacking midfielder was an instant hit with the Portuguese giants ever since joining up from Boca Juniors in 2010 and has gone on to make 136 appearances, and scoring 18 goals. His real talent lies in creating them too, having notched up 38 assists over the previous three campaigns.
