Everton are set to announce the signing of Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone according to the Independent.

Roberto Martinez will make the Ivory Coast international his first signing as Toffees boss as the Goodison Park side look set to complete a £5m deal to bring in the 29 year old striker.

Kone will be handed a three year deal and Martinez will hope the former Levante man can build on his successful first season in the English top tier, during which he netted 13 goals in all competitions and helped the Latics to an FA Cup triumph.

Wigan Athletic boss Owen Coyle will be loathed to see Kone leave but appears to have already signed a replacement for last season’s top scorer as the Scot has brought in Norwich City’s Grant Holt, who is clearly a proven goalscorer at Championship level and could well be the ideal man to fill the void up front.

Coyle will however hope that the likes of James McCarthy and Callum McManaman do not follow Kone in pursuit of an instant Premier League return.
