The Magpies aren’t likely to add to their squad but one plus is that they look likely to keep creative midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Newcastle United may not add to their squad before the transfer window closes but look set to keep midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who was linked with a move to Arsenal, the Daily Star reports.

Arsenal had offered Newcastle £10 million for Cabaye at the beginning of August but the Magpies rejected that bid.

Many had expected the Gunners to return to St James’s Park with an improved offer but the North London club’s interest in the Frenchman has faded, with the Gunners turning their attention to Real Madrid play-maker Mesut Ozil.

Reports suggest that Arsenal are close to completing the £42.5 million signing of Ozil, meaning they don’t need to sign Cabaye.

This will be a big disappointment to Cabaye, who was very interested in a move to Arsenal and had reportedly refused to play for Newcastle in their last few games in order to force through a move to Emirates.

Although Newcastle fans will be happy that they are set to keep Cabaye, they will be less pleased that they aren’t going to add to their squad, with deals for Chelsea’s Demba Ba and Lille midfielder Florian Thauvin going cold.
