Premier League giants Liverpool are understood to still be very confident indeed of beating title rivals Manchester City to the signature of up-and-coming Feyenoord midfield player Rodney Kongolo as soon as the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

It had widely been assumed that the mega-rich north-west outfit had already agreed a deal with the Eredivisie side to sign Kongolo next month after keeping close tabs on the holding midfield player for the past six months.

However, that is not now thought to be the case, with it believed that the Reds have also been in face-to-face talks with the 15-year-old’s agent ahead of a possible switch to Anfield in January, although it is also understood that there remains a major sticking point between the two parties over the Dutchman’s reported wage demands.

Kongolo, who has two brothers, one Netherlands Under-21 international defender Terence, 19, and the other nine-year-old Feyenoord academy prospect Fidel, is said to be demanding a weekly pay packet of £6,000 in order to move to Merseyside, a figure that Reds are thought unwilling to meet at present.

But with a reputation as being the next Patrick Vieira, there is still time for the two camps to reach an agreement though over Kongolo’s move to Liverpool.
