The experienced England international has found himself in the unusual position so far in this campaign of mainly warming the substitutes’ bench for the west London club, although Cole did finally get recalled by Blues head coach Jose Mourinho for their Premier League clash with Swansea City at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

But that was the first time that the 32-year-old had started a top-flight match since Chelsea were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the league at the start of November, and with Mourinho having mainly used Spanish right-back Cesar Azpilicueta instead in Cole’s place, it is expected that the veteran left back will opt to quit the club at the end of this season in the search of more regular first-team football.

And two sides that the attacking full back could end up are either Spurs or Liverpool, with both top-flight outfits hoping to be able to take advantage of Cole being out of the Chelsea team by offering the player the chance to remain in the Premier League.
