The experienced England international is currently enjoying something of a renaissance in his career at Goodison Park, where Barry moved to at the start of the campaign after being told by new City head coach Manuel Pellegrini that he was no longer part of the mega-rich Premier League club’s first-team plans going forward.

As a result, the 32-year-old opted to join the Toffees on a season-long loan deal, but with the holding midfielder’s current deal at City now set to expire at the end of the season, Barry will be available therefore to purchase on a Bosman-style free transfer next summer.

And that means that the player is already able to start negotiating with any clubs that may possibly be interested in his services next season, with his current outfit one of those parties.

However, it has now emerged that new Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood wants to try and steal Barry from under Everton coach Roberto Martinez’s noses as the north London club themselves look for new players to fill that defensive midfield role in front of the back four.

And with Sherwood known to favour bringing in English players with experience to White Hart Lane, Barry fits the new Spurs manager’s criteria perfectly, especially considering that the new man at the helm is also set to offload the likes of central midfielders Lewis Holtby and Etienne Capoue before the winter transfer window closes shut for business for the season again at the end of the month.

Meanwhile Barry himself has been in eye-catching form for Everton so far this campaign since moving to Merseyside, with the Englishman having managed to register an impressive two goals and three assists in his 18 matches in all competitions to date, which all arrived in his 16 Premier League outings for the club.
