Liverpool’s American owner John W Henry is preparing to hand head coach Brendan Rodgers a whopping £60m transfer war chest if the Northern Irishman is able to guide the Reds to a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, and with it a lucrative place in the Uefa Champions League, according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.

The Merseyside giants currently sit in second place in the top flight with now just 10 matches left to play in the league this season, and as a result, the Fenway Sports Group are now prepared to back their young manager in the transfer market this summer if they make it into Europe’s premier club competition.

As a result, Rodgers is understood to be lining up moves for two central defenders, a left back, ball-playing midfielder, wide man and a reserve front man to help the club challenge on four fronts in the next campaign.

And the 41-year-old is now expected to return for Ukraine international winger Yevhen Konoplyanka of Dnipro this summer, while the Reds have also been heavily linked in recent weeks with the likes of Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan, Switzerland international left-back Ricardo Rodriguez and Cardiff City centre-back Steven Caulker.
