Full back will be out of contract at the end of June.

The veteran England international has lost his usual starting place in the west London club’s lineup in this campaign under returning Blues head coach Jose Mourinho, with the self-styled Special One instead preferring to go with Spain right-back Cesar Azpilicueta in his place.

And with the 33-year-old’s current contract at Stamford Bridge set to run out at the end of June, and with still no new offer on the table from the Uefa Europa League holders, it is now looking increasingly likely that Cole will be available to pick up on a lucrative Bosman-style free transfer this summer.

As a result, it is understood that the Merseyside giants will now make a move to bring the experienced Englishman to Anfield next season as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to further shape his first-team squad in a bid to win the Premier League title, with the two having previously worked together in west London when the Northern Irishman was at the club.
