Surely the Gunners won’t sell Koscielny to a Premier League rival…?

In what seems a remarkably ambitious move, Premier League table toppers Liverpool could try and sign Arsenal’s star centre-half Laurent Koscielny, reports Football Direct News.

The 28-year-old has been exceptional for the Gunners this season, but has not been able to stop their season slipping into a battle for the top four. He is currently injured, but should be available for the FA Cup final against Hull City in May.

Liverpool currently top the table following a wonderful weekend win over rivals Manchester City, and with Champions League football at the very least virtually guaranteed, manager Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to the summer transfer window. He knows he will be financially backed, and that his club are now an extremely attractive proposition for potential new players following their superb season.

The Reds currently use Martin Skrtel at centre-back, with Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho competing for a place alongside him. Despite their brilliant attacking football though, Rodgers’ side have been defensively average, conceding 42 goals so far, almost 20 more than Chelsea.

As a result, Rodgers apparently wants to sign Koscielny to start alongside Skrtel at the back. He is a big admirer of Koscielny’s positional play, and his ability to carry the ball from defence.

For us though, it seems enormously unlikely that Arsenal will even consider selling the French international to a rival, especially considering his three year contract, and the way Liverpool laughed off Arsenal’s bid for Luis Suarez last summer.
