Ben Arfa has fallen out of favour with Magpies boss Alan Pardew, who has now banned him from all first team responsibilities for the remainder of the season after a series of arguments that are showing no signs of coming to an end.

The 27-year-old has insisted that he has not given up hope at being able to salvage his career at St James’ Park, but with the situation getting no closer to being sorted between the pair, Liverpool are eager to step in and bring him on board at the end of the season.

According to reports, Brendan Rodgers will offer £6m to tempt Newcastle into doing business, with the Anfield club hopeful a deal can be agreed.

Liverpool were interested in bringing the France international last summer, but Ben Arfa signalled his intentions by penning a new deal with the Magpies before rows broke out over the player’s behaviour.
