City’s bid for French defender accepted.Porto have accepted a £32m bid from Manchester City for defensive starlet Eliaquim Mangala, according to French source L’Equipe.
The 23-year-old has long been linked with a number of top clubs around Europe, including Manchester United and Barcelona, while Premier League giants Chelsea are also said to be in the running to sign him this summer.
Mangala is yet to agree personal terms on a switch to the Etihad Stadium, but has previously hinted that he would favour a move elsewhere, despite long-standing interest from City.
The Premier League champions have been keen to sign new recruits in defence this summer after some inconsistent displays at the back last season, with the likes of Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis not always hitting top form in the club’s title-winning campaign.
A new signing in that area could also be crucial with the departure of squad player Joleon Lescott to West Bromwich Albion, while youngster Matija Nastasic could also leave after attracting interest from Juventus.
City will hope to persuade Mangala to pick them as his next club, but it remains to be seen if Chelsea will now look to match their £32m offer, which has seemingly persuaded Porto to let their star player leave.
