AC Milan could be set to rival the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy as they eye a replacement for Liverpool-bound Mario Balotelli.

The Italian giants will need a new signing upfront to cope with the departure of the Italian international, who scored 18 goals for the club last season before leaving in what looks set to be a £16m deal.

While the former Manchester City man will prove an exciting addition to the Premier League, it will leave Milan desperate to sign a quality striker, which now looks to have led them to make a raid on one of the finest forwards in English football in the last couple of seasons.

Remy, who scored 14 goals in a loan spell with Newcastle United last season, was actually Liverpool’s original main target upfront to replace the departing Luis Suarez, but he failed a medical at Anfield earlier this summer, remaining at QPR for the time being.

Tottenham have been the latest team to show a strong interest in the prolific French international, but Milan have now made him their top target upfront, as he may be available for a reasonable price at just £8.5m, his release clause at Loftus Road.

One possible stumbling block with the move could be the 27-year-old’s desire to play in the Champions League, though he may be open to other offers now with Liverpool previously pulling the plug on the deal and Arsenal seemingly cooling their interest.

The San Siro outfit also had another QPR player on their books last season with a loan move for Adel Taarabt, though they have been unable to strike a deal to keep him permanently.

If Remy does end up moving to Italy, it would likely see Spurs switch their focus to Swansea City striker and long-time target Wilfried Bony.
